South Texas Adult Medicine Associates has implemented the use of ArterioVison. ArterioVision is an exciting non-invasive way to diagnose the threat of heart disease to patients.

Research has proven that the higher your CIMT value, the greater the likelihood of developing or further symptomatic heart disease. ArterioVision provides our physicians a safe and efficient way to monitor the CIMT of patients and provide them with measures to correct their CIMT values before they become life threatening.

This ultrasound procedure is safe, non-invasive with no radiation, fast and highly accurate in monitoring heart disease at its earliest anatomical manifestation. In detecting the extent of the disease through arterial wall thickness, we can then institute more aggressive therapies/lifestyle modifications to help reverse the progression of heart disease. Since the CIMT diagnostic procedure is also highly accurate and repeatable, over time, it can help measure treatment effectiveness. It is possible for your CIMT value to decrease with proper intervention. In other words, we can follow your score and monitor a decrease in your risk for a heart attack or stroke (or, in some cases, a second cardiac event). The exam also provides, among other things, a comparison of your current age to the age of your arteries. The science behind this procedure was developed at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech)/Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and USC's Keck School of Medicine.
